Tracing In Illustrator

This is how you do it...

1. Scan the image you wish to work on.
2. Open the programme Adobe Illustrator. Find it in the red folder in the dock with the letters CC on it.
3. Set up an A3 or A4 artboard that is landscape or portrait in orientation. You have to make a choice based on the image you are to work with.
4. Make the size choice and orientation on this screen. Here you can see the size is A3 and the Orientation is portrait.

formal elements

the nature of our looking is based on a series of images of gilbert & george taken in the countryside near colchester. the artists describe it not as a drawing, but as a charcoal-on-paper sculpture. its imposing scale creates the same kind of physical presence

Electrical Hazards

Electrical Hazards

People who work directly with electricity, including electricians and engineers, are at risk of injury; personnel who work with electrical equipment in the office are also at risk of injury. Even an office worker making a fix with power tools outdoors can sustain electrical injury during adverse weather. You can minimize the risk of injuries by using one extension cord or power strip per connection, keeping liquids clear of electrical equipment and conducting regular safety examinations.

the night cafe Vincent van Gogh

In wildly contrasting, vivid colours, the ceiling is green, the upper walls red, the glowing, gas ceiling lamps and floor largely yellow.

At tables and drinking together at the far end of the room.

There are three drunks and derelicts in a large public room huddled down in sleep or stupor.

Great Fire of London

The Great Fire of London was a major conflagration that swept through the central parts of the English city of London from Sunday, 2 September to Wednesday, 5 September 1666.The death toll is unknown but traditionally thought to have been small, as only six verified deaths were recorded.

This reasoning has recently been challenged on the grounds that the deaths of poor and middle-class people were not recorded, while the heat of the fire may have cremated many victims, leaving no recognisable remains.
  Aftermath
An example of the urge to identify scapegoats for the fire is the acceptance of the confession of a simple-minded French watchmaker named Robert Hubert, who claimed that he was an agent of the Pope and had started the Great Fire in Westminster.

17th century firefighting

Woodcut image showing how firehooks are used to help tear down buildings to stop fires from spreading, as seen during a fire at Tiverton in Devon, England, 1612
"Firehooks" used to fight a fire at Tiverton in Devon, England, 1612.
Fires were common in the crowded wood-built city with its open fireplaces, candles, ovens, and stores of combustibles. There was no police or fire brigade to call, but London's local militia, known as the Trained Bands, was available for general emergencies, at least in principle, and watching for fire was one of the jobs of the watch, a thousand watchmen or "bellmen" who patrolled the streets at night. Self-reliant community procedures were in place for dealing with fires, and they were usually effective. Public-spirited citizens would be alerted to a dangerous house fire by muffled peals on the church bells, and would congregate hastily to fight the fire.
